Who Wrote The Bible?
MOSES DID NOT WRITE THE PENTATEUCH
The entire Pentateuch is written in the third person and in the past tense.
- Moses is called most humble man on earth (Num 12:3).
- Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses are spoken of as past figures.
- Moses spoken of in third person (Deut 31:9).
- Moses did not cross the Jordan (Deut 1:1-5).
- Moses could not have recorded his own death (Deut 34:5).
- Location of Moses’ grave site was not known “to this day” - suggesting distant past (Deut 34:6).
- Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses – suggesting distant past (Deut 34:10).
There is no claim in the Pentateuch that Moses is its author.
The Pentateuch is full of anachronisms indicating that it was compiled after Moses

- “As far as Dan” (Gen 14:14).
- “Before any Israelite king reigned” (Gen 36:31).
- Philistines as existing in patriarchal times although they did not settle in Canaan until the twelfth century B.C. (Gen 10:14; 21:32, 34; 26:1, 8, 14-15, 18).
- “Mount Moriah” (Gen 22:2, 14) mentioned elsewhere only in 2 Chr 3:1 as the site of the temple.
- “At that time the Canaanites were in the land” (Gen 12:6 and Gen 13:7). Indicating that Genesis was written after Canaanites were banished from the land under David 1,000 – 960 B.C.
- Bed of iron of King Og of Bashan “can still be seen in Rabbah” (Deut 3:11). David conquered Rabbah (2 Sam 12:30).
- Abraham described as law keeper long before the law was given (Gen 26:5).
- Melchizedek was a priest back in Abraham’s day (Gen 14:18).
- Two creation stories (Gen 1:1 – 2:3 and 2:4-25).
- Two stories of the Abrahamic covenant (Gen 15 and 17).
- Two incidents of Abraham passing Sarah off as his sister (Gen 12 and 20).
- Two stories of the nations being dispersed (Gen 10 and 11:1-9).
- Two calls of Moses (Exo 3 and 6).
- Two incidents of Moses and water from the rock (Exo 17 and Num 20).
- Two names of God – Elohim (God – Gen 1) and Yahweh (Lord – Gen 2-4).

PAUL DID NOT WRITE THE PASTORALS (1 AND 2 TIMOTHY AND TITUS).
The Unreliability of the Epistles’ Authorship Claims
Pseudepigraphy was the practice of putting one’s own words into the mouth of a reputable figure, usually from the past. And we have reliable evidence that some early Christians were using Paul’s name to add legitimacy to their writings.
Late Attestation & Mixed Reception
The Pastorals do not appear to have received the same early, widespread acceptance within the early church that the uncontested Pauline epistles did.
Vocabulary & Style
The vocabulary of the Pastoral epistles is different from that of the undisputed letters of Paul. Of 848 words (excluding proper names) found in the Pastorals, 306 are not in the remainder of the Pauline corpus.
The Emphasis on Keeping the Faith
There is an emphasis in the Pastorals on keeping “the faith”, which may indicate that the Pastorals were written after apostolic teaching had an opportunity to coalesce into a recognized body of doctrine.
Lack of Substantive Debate
Paul’s usual approach is to confront his opponents with reasoned debate and an authentic gospel. The author of the Pastorals, on the other hand, is content simply to denounce false teachers.
Presence of Gnostic Thought
Woven throughout the Pastoral letters are attacks on certain heresies. Some scholars have suggested that these elements in the Pastorals suggest a date of composition towards the end of the 1st century or early 2nd century.
Developed Ecclesiology
The Pastorals’ emphasis on the roles of bishops, elders, deacons and widows is typical of the more developed ecclesiology of the late first century rather than Paul’s era. The Pastorals reflect a degree of institutionalized church structure unknown in Paul’s day.
Historical Difficulties
The Pastoral epistles describe travels of Paul that bear little resemblance to what we know of his journeys from Acts and other Pauline letters.
The Role of Women
The Pastorals appear to teach a more restrictive role for women than do the undisputed letters of Paul, possibly as a reaction against interpretations of his message that were bringing the church into disrepute.

The Book of Daniel was written by an unknown author around 165 B.C.
The Book of Isaiah was written by three different authors over several centuries.
Of the thirteen letters ascribed to Paul in the New Testament scholars are agreed that seven were actually written by him : Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, 1 Thessalonians, and Philemon. The others are thought to be pseudonymous. (Ephesians, Colossians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, and Titus).
Peter did not write 1 and 2 Peter. Jude did nor write Jude. James did not write James. The Gospels were not written bt Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John, but instead were written by unknown authors decades after they lived. Click here.
